Creating a Bug Free Mind by Andy Shaw (2016 Review)

Welcome to our detailed review of ‘Creating a Bug Free Mind‘ by Andy Shaw. This is the first book of a two book series. The second book is called ‘Using a Bug Free Mind’. Creating a Bug Free Mind Review

This first book is about clearing the bugs (baggage) from your mind, which is clouding your current way of thinking. Book 2 then shows you how to put ‘software’ into your mind efficiently and effectively – for amazing results.

If you want to read our overview of both books, together with the background of the reasons for creating these books, plus read a bit more about the author then please click : A Bug Free Mind Overview.

Next to each chapter title we shall put the number of pages devoted to it in the book and the amount of time devoted to it in the audio version.

This article will delve straight into the content, and we will provide you with a summary of each chapter. It is not our intention to influence you one way or the other whether to purchase Creating a Bug Free Mind. The purpose of this article is to remain impartial and merely to provide you with the details of the program.

Creating a Bug Free Mind Review

Introduction (Book: 31 pages / Audio: 34min 40sec) Creating a Bug Free Mind Book Image

Andy starts the book by explaining why it was written. He briefly explains the financial problems he had in 2009, which lead to the realization that he had to put his life back together by firstly taking control of his mind.

Andy goes on to explain why personal development programs don’t work. Basically, this is due to people trying to fill their mind with good material, before they take the time to remove existing chaotic thinking. (We have a video on the overview page which explains this in detail)

Throughout both books the author repeats himself a lot. For some people this might be annoying. However in this introduction Andy explains why he is doing this. If you spot the repetition throughout the books then, if nothing else, it shows that some of what you’ve read previously his being retained. And that is a good thing.

In the final part of the introduction Andy tells us how to get the most from the book. This is to ensure that Creating a Bug Free Mind is not just another book that you pick up, read, put down, forget about, and not benefit from.

One of the prerequisites of seeing success from these books is the fact that you are going to have to read (or listen to, in a case of the audios) them more than once. There is far too much information for anyone to be able to absorb it on the first sitting. Also, readers will need time to adjust from their current ‘bugged-up’ way of thinking.

Chapter 1 – From Gold To sh*t (Book: 11pgs / Audio: 24:29)

This chapter is a brief history from Andy’s early childhood (which included the influence of his successful millionaire uncle), right through to his bankruptcy in 2009.

In between, we get to learn of the authors mixed career which led up to his multi-millionaire status – in property investment – and the publishing of his first book on the same subject.

We also get to learn that he was able to make his £millions without reading any books on wealth creation or any other type of personal development.

His success was due to his naturally successful mindset. However, it was also his mind-set which created the subsequent failures.

Chapter 2 – The Turning Point (Book: 14pgs / Audio: 30:14)

Are you in control of your mind….. or is it in control of you ? This is a question not many of us will want to admit to.

At the time of his Bankruptcy, Andy was an all-time low. His mindset was either thinking about past regrets, or worrying about the future. He was constantly being bombarded with negativity and this wasn’t helping his thoughts – resulting in him having a ‘lack’ mindset. The Law of Attraction was starting to work against him.

He turned back to personal development, as he knew that would re-ignite a correct way of thinking in his mind.

“If you cannot control what you think then you cannot create the future you desire. However, you do not need to be in control to easily create the future which you do not desire, as this you can do that by accident.”

A 15 second mindset challenge confirmed that Andy was not in control of his mind anymore. He talks through this process – which the first of many challenges he sets for the reader / listener. It is shocking to find out how ‘out of control’ most people are (i.e. you keep ‘drifting off’ and lack focus). This exercise – which is the foundation to the whole Bug Free Mind process – will highlight how out of control you might be.

Once you have control of the ‘little saboteur’ in your head the road to success gets a LOT easier. If you can’t master this skill you will always be stuck in your life.

Chapter 3 – Becoming Indestructible (Book: 7pgs / Audio: 12:42)

A short chapter which develops the concepts started in chapter 2. Andy looks to increase your control over your mind with 15 minutes of positive thought. He also provides ideas for memory joggers to keep you on track with this process.

Gratitude and appreciation exercises are introduced. These will change your state of mind immediately.

Finally, Andy explains why rushing is NOT a good way to run your life and gives a simple technique for halting the negative thoughts as soon as they appear in your mind (you WILL become more aware of negative thoughts popping into your head by the way).

This is the first chapter that Andy introduces the “Summary of Techniques”. These are excellent bullet points that are at the end of each chapter. They neatly summarize what you have learnt and what exercises you should have done (or should be doing). There are also some interesting ‘thought provokers’ in these summary points – this process is not just about reading (or listening), you need to exercise your brain to make it (and you) grow.

Chapter 4 – Lightening The Load (Book: 16pgs / Audio: 33:54)

This chapter aims to release the baggage that most of us have. Andy provides a brilliant metaphor. This is just part of it :

Are you walking through an airport with :

  • Person A – a small bag, or
  • Person B – carrying a heavy rucksack on your back, whilst pushing a trolley full of 5 suit cases – struggling and sweating

You’re both on the same journey – how much baggage are YOU carrying.

You must let go of your baggage (mind junk) if you want your journey to be easier. Do you honestly believe that thinking about something from your past (that you can’t change AND makes you feel bad) will help you in any way now ? Of course not, but we all do it though.

Andy then provides a brilliant 3-word tip that dissolves all of the energy sapping negativity that develops as a result of those bad thoughts from your past experiences. He also highlights the ‘pattern of destruction’ created from thinking about bad thoughts from the past.

The chapter then looks at the importance of living a life of ‘surrender’ and, linked to this, why resentment only serves to destroy you (both mentally AND physically).

The final section of this chapter is on the essential skill of being able to ‘observe without judgment’. If you can not master this skill then you will only serve to destroy yourself. Andy provides a striking personal example of observing without judgement to emphasis the point.

Chapter 5 – Curing The World’s Biggest Disease (Book: 4pgs / Audio: 8:04)

Another very short chapter. This is an introduction to negativity and how it can affect many areas of our lives. There is nothing good about negativity and it serves no purpose. Is it any coincidence that successful people are NOT negative by nature yet unsuccessful people ARE negative in their outlook?

Chapter 6 – Why Worry? (Book: 22pgs / Audio: 48:35)

There is more about Andy’s recent past in this chapter but, as with other chapters, he does this to ‘bring alive’ the points being made.

Worry is a big problem for many people. It is a ‘lack thought’ that doesn’t serve us. Worry only closes down the creative elements of our brain. Worry is effectively the ‘handcuffs to success’. Why do we worry ? What benefits do we get from it ? In our society it seems to be accepted behavior.

Worry takes you out of the present (You’re either worrying about the past, or worrying about the future). This is counter-productive as you can only create your desired future by being ‘present’.

The ultimate insanity is worrying what other people are thinking – we never worried what others thought when we were children…. but then we were also happier then. Animals don’t worry either. They just re-act to situations ‘as and when’ they occur. Worry does not fit into the natural world and it shouldn’t fit into ours.

You are going to make mistakes in your life. Accept that. Worrying won’t change the number of mistakes you make, or reduce their severity. It will only add to the number of mistakes and is likely to increase their severity as well. Deal with your problems or accept them. Just don’t worry about them.

This chapter concludes by showing you how to eliminate worry forever. For many people this chapter alone is worth the cost of the books / audios.

Chapter 7 – Going Against The Grain (Book: 28pgs / Audio: 1:03:39)

Andy Shaw

Andy Shaw

This chapter is about the strong probability that you are going to clash with others throughout your life. Differing opinions are part of life. You can’t force change in others so don’t even try. Accept others ‘unconsciousness’ even if they don’t agree with the directions you are taking.

Next we look at the ‘blame culture’ in today’s society. It serves no purpose and if you are surrounded by ‘blamers’ either let the blame pass through you, or take the blame yourself and move on.

Andy then looks at the damage your ego does to you – particularly to your self-esteem. It basically tells you that you’re useless (it typically does this through procrastination and avoidance measures).

The next part of the chapter looks at why ‘knowing’ things does not mean that you actually ‘know’ them ? Why does your ego let you ‘know’ something, but not let you apply it ? Andy uses an excellent health analogy which clearly demonstrates this point.

Some great tips are provided to enable the reader / listener to speed up absorbing this material. This includes participating in the Bug Free Mind Mastermind membership area.

Chapter 8 – The Perfect Competitor (Book: 18pgs / Audio: 35:21)

Andy identifies why poor people dislike rich people. However, this dislike is not helping them in the long run.

It’s not about how many ‘toys’ you have when you die. It’s about how many days you have ‘lived’ and why you need to be happy NOW to get what you desire. The toys won’t make you happy anyway. Happiness can only come from within.

Do you want to mull over your problems or look for a solution ? Andy provides an excellent ‘first thing in the morning’ tip, which is a very powerful way to start your day. It’s also a massive motivator for getting you out of bed in the morning without even using an alarm clock (This one does work – we’ve tried it).

Andy breaks down what he accomplished in just 64 days. The list is huge and very inspirational.

In another great analogy, Andy compares our minds with power tools. A power tool will not do the job on its own and is actually quite dangerous in untrained hands… just like our minds. Don’t assume that because you’ve had this power tool (your mind), from birth, that you know how to use it correctly !! Master craftsmen know how to use their tools correctly.

Andy then provides a list of 20 things that you should now be able to do. If you can’t do them at this stage, then your ego is already blocking you from learning this stuff (by not ‘taking it in’ or ‘being distracted’), or maybe you are just reading too fast ?

Chapter 9 – Do You Really “Want” To Wait Anymore (Book: 16pgs / Audio: 36:40)

In this chapter, Andy explains why you have not achieved the goals you might have set yourself in the past. It is really obvious when you know it, although some might argue that it’s just a play on words. However, an understanding of NLP and the Law of Attraction will help you ‘accept’ this concept.

The next part of the chapter, Andy analyzes the 3 states of ‘waiting’. Waiting can be a good thing and a bad thing. We are encouraged to use our periods of waiting to our advantage and not let them destroy us.

Finally, we take a detailed look at the weak word of “Hope”. This word needs to be eliminated from your dictionary.

Chapter 10 – Running The Anti-virus (Book: 17pgs / Audio: 38:10)

In this chapter (which is short, but covers a lot), we learn why the word “want” does not help us at all – but ‘having’, ‘allowing’ and ‘accepting’ are states we must be in. Again the author delves into his personal life for examples of mind-shift to back up the learning points.

The ‘law of detachment’ is touched on at this point, as being a key element of manifesting what we desire. Accept that you are going to get your desires and detach yourself from the outcome.

Next we look at how an ‘out of control mind’ is the main contributory factor to addictions. Then, we move on to the insanity of arguments and how argumentative people are just ‘unconscious’ in their thinking.

The next part of this chapter looks at how to remove negative beliefs. It’s about asking the right questions (something we’ve also covered in Noah St John’s Afformations article).

Finally, managing change is reviewed and Andy discusses how our ego moves us away from what we actually want.

Chapter 11 – Now That’s Painful (Book: 15pgs / Audio: 35:30)

This chapter looks at the pain we are unconsciously adding to our lives. The real issue being that people don’t even realize that they are adding to this ‘pain’ (by re-living old problems, for example).

Resistance and resentment are other forms of pain and are like anchors in the ground to us – stopping us from moving forward. They do not help with our life progression. If you resent people who already have something that you want, then your chances of having, or keeping, that same thing are virtually zero.

By the end of the chapter, Andy provides some wise words on how to remove these pains and, more importantly, how to stop you adding more of it.

Chapter 12 – Has The Blob Caught You (Book: 8pgs / Audio: 18:24)

The ‘blob’ talked about in this chapter is negativity, which only leads to unhappiness and unconsciousness. It can spread quicker than any disease and there is no value to it.

We are then given a simple way to beat negativity. Firstly, we must understand what negativity is. We are provided with a list of what it looks like and a list what your life could be like without it. You just need to ask yourself which list it is you want in your life.

In the summary, Andy encourages us to raise our awareness of our surrounding negativity (there’s a lot of it about). Once you have heightened awareness of negativity, you can then make the necessary changes to eliminate it from your life.

Chapter 13 – The World’s Greatest Demons (Book: 12pgs / Audio: 26:40)Creating a Bug Free Mind Audio

The author starts this chapter with some hard-hitting comments, which may rile some readers. He talks about the blind obedience we suffer from education, religion, science and the medical profession.

We then briefly touch on charities (charitable thinking is not helpful). Feeling sorry is negative and giving money high-lights a lack mentality. It is better to send a ‘positive outcome’ thought instead.

Chapter 14 – Who’s Afraid Of The Big Bad…. Illusion (Book: 35pgs / Audio: 1:19:44)

Andy opens up with a bold statement that, over the next 2 chapters, he will be breaking down all of our fear barriers and he will remove them from our lives forever. Imagine having a fear-free life. What possibilities would that open up ?

Fear is another form of negativity (which we know is a destructive force). People who live in psychological fear are easily controlled (marketing takes advantage of this). Fears are merely our lack of understanding of an issue (Andy provides a great analogy of a caveman being faced with a Ferrari to illustrate this point).

The author explains that he could have been fearful over his own bankruptcy situation (i.e. by possibly going to prison). However, he turned the potential negative into a positive.

How we can overcome our fears is split into 7 parts (1 to 4 in this chapter and 5 to 7 in the following chapter).

A large chunk of the next section is about people purchasing products from seminars and why they don’t get the success that the product creators have seen. Then Andy covers what you need to become an ‘expert’ in any field.

Procrastination is briefly touched on at this point, as merely being the fear of making a mistake and about what others will think about us if we do.

Finally, how to manage bad stress in an instant is covered with one simple sentence at the end of the chapter.

Chapter 15 – This Is A Game Of High Stakes (Book: 28pgs / Audio: 1:04:29)

How to overcome all fears parts 5 – 7 continues in this chapter.

Knowledge is NOT power. ‘Applied knowledge’ is power. Andy takes time out to look at the folly of rushing. If you are rushing in your life, all you are storing up for yourself is more ‘rushing’. If you rush in life you are likely to miss the great things whizzing by and will stop later on and say “What happened to my life ?” (We have an article on this subject called “Why is My Life Passing By So Quickly ?” which is well worth reading).

The definition of worry is worth looking up. Do you really want this insanity in your life ? Worry is a choice that we make. If you make it your dominant attention then you will just attract more of it. Or maybe your worry is trying to tell you something (it’s only true in certain circumstances that worry is a useful thing, which Andy goes into).

Nothing is ever bad. Everything happens for a reason, and we have the ability to make good out of all the bad things (and we frequently do), so what is the point of worrying ? Worry cannot take us to where we want to go – it’s impossible. In fact, it takes us in the opposite direction, so what is the point of worrying ?

Andy then takes an interesting look at the world of professional psychology and how it fails its patients.

The last third of this chapter, is written for those people who don’t like to take risks. Andy’s risk taking is totally different to the average person. He concludes that non-risk takers are actually gambling far more than he ever does. It’s all about perception. The average reader is actually gambling with their time and ultimately their lives. Andy defines risk from the successful person perspective and the unsuccessful one. It’s an interesting contrast.

Finally, Andy provides 10 factors to think about when considering whether something is risky or not. You need to do due diligence with each one of these.

Chapter 16 – Absolute Power (Book: 17pgs / Audio: 40:15)

This chapter is about ‘surrendering’ and ‘letting go of revenge’. Andy informs us that taking control of our mind could potentially be seen as a threat to others. People are wary of other people’s (yours) ‘security’ and will use negativity to ‘shield’ themselves.

We then move onto unhappiness. What causes it and how you can break free from it ? If you are not at peace with your life, then the book has the answers to that too.

Andy points out that Judgement of other people is actually weakness and is not helping you. Don’t let small irritations build up within you. Nature is the thing to observe when looking at the subject of resistance as there is no resistance in nature.

Don’t resist or fight other people’s ‘unconscious behaviour’ (that’s just your ego trying to screw with your progress).

Finally, we consider the act of ‘surrendering’. This is about accepting situations as they are and not about surrendering with an attitude of “I don’t care” or “I can’t be bothered”.

Chapter 17 – When Is NOW The Right Time (Book: 20pgs / Audio: 46:35) Both Bug Free Mind Books

Reference to Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now” is made in this chapter and Andy explains how initially he struggled to understand the concept of this book. However, he tries to simplify the processes set out in Tolle’s work (and that of the follow-up book, “Practicing the Power of Now”).

We learn that time is just an illusion. You can only do things “Now”. All the bad things like anxiety, stress, fear, and worry, result from us trying to get “there” and being dissatisfied with the “here and now”. Learn to live in the now. Never ‘wish’ it was “in the future”.

Andy touches on the importance of spirituality and informs us how it makes life easier as everything happens NOW. Live in the now (animals understand this, why don’t humans ?)

Most people are sacrificing the ‘joy of the moment’ for the promise of enjoyment in the future. For most, that ‘future’ never comes. Why wait for happiness to appear in the future…. when you can have it now ? It’s all just a mind thing. Being present is crucial (our minds are wandering all the time).

In the ‘summary of techniques’ for this chapter, Andy provides some excellent tips for ensuring that you remain ‘present’.

Chapter 18 – Are You Allowed To Do That (Book: 16pgs / Audio: 35:33)

This is the start of the ‘transition layers’ according to the author. It starts here with the ‘Allowing phase’. Don’t try to fix things for yourself, or others, and don’t judge anyone.

If you are not sure if you are going in the right direction in life don’t try to force an answer, just ‘allow’ one to come. Feel REALLY good and your success is guaranteed.

Judging at first sight is wrong. You’ll end up wasting your time with that person because you are internally trying to justify your ‘first impression’.

The importance of listening to others is pointed out; and there is a sneaky trick for staying present during meetings. Look for opportunities to listen to people.

Chapter 19 – The Secret To Success (Book: 10pgs / Audio: 22:26)

When you say you ‘believe‘ something…. do you REALLY believe it ? You’ve got to ‘know’ things to make them certain. Believing is just not enough.

So if you only believe that you’re going to attain your goals, then there is a strong probability that you won’t. When you ‘know‘ things are going to be achieved then there is no effort involved – it just happens. Whilst these sound just like a play on words, Andy provides a very compelling argument in this chapter.

Later in the chapter, the author provides proof of when we claim to know something but actually we don’t know it at all (it happens to all of us). There is one key element to knowing something to prove that you really do. A lack of this element causes us to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Let go of your desires, as when you do they will then fall into the ‘knowing it will happen’ category.

Finally, we learn how to start to create our future, in a few simple lines.

Chapter 20 – Achieving Harmony (Book: 13pgs / Audio: 30:25)

This chapter focuses on being and feeling happy. This leads to being in the right vibrational match, which will ultimately create the right situation for manifesting your desires.

Being in harmony is crucial. Andy provides simple techniques for being happy in an instant.

We also learn what needs to happen for us to attain complete harmonious vibrational alignment. This will allow the complete fulfillment of those things we wish to have in our life.

Whilst it is believed that most of us want certainty, Andy explains the wisdom of uncertainty and how this is essential for whatever life-path we are on.

Chapter 21 – The Unconscious Lay Man’s Way To Enlightenment (Book: 6pgs / Audio: 13:56)

The author briefly talks about enlightenment in this chapter. However, it is not any area he particularly wants to pursue at this moment in his life. If you want to become enlightened…. Don’t try.

Chapter 22 – Have You Been Sold The Wrong Plan (Book: 10pgs / Audio: 21:32)

This chapter talks about retirement. But you only need to retire if you don’t like what you’re doing. If you like what you’re doing then why would you stop ?

“Working in a job you hate so that one day you can retire is not living, it’s surviving.” (Andy Shaw)

In the second half of this chapter, we learn about competition and why you should ‘feel good’ about your competition.

Chapter 23 – The Law Of Attraction Does Not Work. The Law Of Creation Does (Book: 16pgs / Audio: 36:05)

This is a very interesting chapter – especially if you’ve been following the Law of Attraction since the film “The Secret” was released, in 2006. We learn that, 200,000,000 people have seen the movie, but very few have seen success with it.

Whilst it will go against the grain for some people, what is said in this chapter makes a lot of sense. For example, Andy debunks the idea that we are a living magnet which attracts things in harmony with our dominant thoughts. We are, in fact, creators who create things in harmony with our dominant thoughts. This does actually sound much more logical and believable.

Finally we are provided with 10 ways to increase our positive energy – this is crucial for attracting (or creating !!).

Chapter 24 – Doing Less And Creating More (Book: 20pgs / Audio: 45:47)

The author explains that the last few chapters of Creating a Bug Free Mind will really spike the interest in a lot of people. Here’s what you can expect :Andy Shaws Books

  • How to do more with a lot less effort
  • How to never feel busy again
  • How to never feel rushed again
  • How to remove overwhelm completely
  • How to create more time
  • How to make the years seem longer, not shorter

In this chapter, we learn that nature grows and goes about its business with very little effort. In contrast, humans have to put in hard work and effort to get anything worthwhile done….. or do they ?

Action is a vital part of any creation process, but only after it’s right and logical. Many people procrastinate. This is often seen as bad. However, sometimes procrastination isn’t a bad thing, as it might be your intuition telling you that the timing for that life-path is not quite right. However, we are told by Andy when the right time to take action is.

Chapter 25 – How I Killed Off Overwhelm For Good (Book: 26pgs / Audio: 1:01:25)

Feeling overwhelm is a big destroyer of our life. But overwhelm is just in our minds. There are people with little real work to do who feel overwhelmed. Conversely, there are people with twice as much work to do who don’t feel overwhelmed at all.

As Andy says, just focus on the important tasks and ignore the rest – this will free you from overwhelm. If you enjoy what you’re doing NOW then the problems of the FUTURE will be dealt with THEN.

The book provides some great tips on how the author deals with :

  • Overwhelm by planning
  • the use of Excel to help organize his life
  • email prioritization
  • paper filing
  • meetings

Procrastination is covered with additional tips. The author explains that he would never put deadlines on enjoyable work activities. They’ll just happen when they’re supposed to happen.

We totally agree with Andy’s views on the telephone and he provides lots of tips. Never enjoy the ‘excuse’ given to you, by a ringing phone, to stop work. If you do choose to allow telephone interruptions, then there is a 7-step process on how to deal with them effectively.

In summary, overwhelm is cured by systematizing your life and staying present. Don’t fight it, as it’s just an illusion.

Finally, we learn how to create time (yes it can be done) – again it’s all in your mind.

Chapter 26 – Re-Learning To Trust Your Intuition And Ignore Your Mind (Book: 16pgs / Audio: 37:03)

This chapter starts with the 2 rules for making decisions in the future, when you’re not quite sure which path to follow.

Bad results are not necessarily bad as they are likely to get you where you desire in the future – as long as :

  • you have a clearly defined goal or life plan
  • you don’t keep making the same mistakes

The book then tells us why our minds are not the best tool for decision-making and why we should learn to trust our intuition. If we are ‘unsuccessful’ it’s because we’ve let our ‘bugged up’ mind make the decisions in the past, instead of our intuition.

We all get ‘stuck’ in our lives, and there is a very interesting piece in this chapter on why this happens and what we can do about it. If you haven’t learnt a ‘life lesson’, then you will always be stuck in that particular area of your life.

Towards the end of the chapter, Andy explains why ‘feeling sorry’ for someone’s misfortunes does not help them……or you.

Chapter 27 – So What New Skills And Magical Powers Do You Have (Book: 21pgs / Audio: 43:28)

By the time you get to this chapter it is assumed that you will be living a different life. You will be on track with your better life. However, Andy expects that your ego will still be there to trip you up. In this chapter, he exposes what those hurdles might be.

We are provided with a massive list of 57 learning points from this book. However, there will be bits of the book that you ‘think’ you know, but in all likelihood you still don’t. Prepare yourself for re-reads of this book, in order to absorb the lot.

The problem many people will have is that they will go ‘out of tune’ and slip back into their old ways as soon as they stop immersing themselves in this material. You need to have ‘a bug free mind’ in order to create the life you desire. However, the book provides us with a tip to keep us in tune long after we have read this material.

Chapter 28 – Do You Think You’re Worth The Effort (Book: 9pgs / Audio: 20:31)

Andy recommends that we treat this process like a hobby. Have fun with it and don’t see this as work.

The temptation for many will be to rush off to “Using a Bug Free Mind” (the second book), but this would be wrong as many will still have bugs that need clearing. You’ve got to get to the stage of ‘living a life of certainty’. Creating a Bug Free Mind (this book) should give you that.

You need to become a master of your own mind and hold the ‘No mind’ process for a minimum of 30 seconds AT WILL within 8 weeks. If you can’t do that, then you would have failed. Get it right and you will never be the same again (in a very good way).

The membership site is recommended to keep you on track.

Appendices – (Book: 24pgs / Audio: 11:01)
